Variable ND Filter

A neutral density (ND) filter reduces light to control exposure, and a variable ND (VND) filter simplifies this process by allowing you to adjust the light reduction with a simple twist. The ProMaster Basis VND filter offers light reduction from 2 to 8 f-stops and can be adjusted to any point between. In both photography and videography, limiting light is essential for creative control. For instance, in still photography, a VND filter enables slower shutter speeds to create motion blur, like blurring water to suggest movement. In videography, where shutter speed is often fixed, a VND filter allows the use of a large aperture for shallow depth of field in bright conditions while maintaining proper exposure. Additionally, all ProMaster Basis filters feature the same filter thread on both sides, ensuring compatibility with lens caps and other filters. These filters are not only optically excellent but also affordable, offering outstanding value for photographers and videographers alike.

Robert ★★★★★

I was worried about color casts with a variable ND, but this one stays neutral even at the darker 8-stop setting. It screws onto my lens without any binding, which is a relief.

Carter ★★★★★

The ring turns so smoothly that adjusting exposure mid-shot feels effortless, and I’m genuinely surprised there’s no noticeable color shift across the 2-8 stop range.

Miles ★★★★★

I was worried about color cast with a variable ND, but this one keeps the image clean even at the darker settings. The smooth rotation lets me dial in exactly the right exposure without fumbling.
